Key Background:

The tenth edition of the Best Companies for Women in India (BCWI) list, released by workplace culture consulting firm Avtar, shows encouraging progress in women’s representation and workplace inclusion. The report that includes 125 companies shows that there are now 20 percent of women in top positions, and their general representation in the company is 35.7 percent.

The largest number of women is in the professional services, 44.6, and ITES, 41.7. Women workers are 25, 23, and 12 percent in Pharma, FMCG, and manufacturing, and are working on better inclusion.

The study also looked at why employees leave. Career growth is the main reason for both men and women, but for women, health and well-being issues are a significant factor, even more than childcare responsibilities.

Among the top 10 Best Companies for Women in India 2025 are Accenture Solutions, EY, KPMG India, Mastercard, Procter & Gamble, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, and others. Companies from diverse sectors, including IT, healthcare, automotive, finance, retail, and professional services, were recognized.

In addition, Avtar released the seventh edition of its Most Inclusive Companies Index (MICI), which evaluates diversity across gender, LGBTQ+, persons with disabilities, generational, and cultural representation. Today, 100% of MICI-listed companies employ persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ inclusion has increased dramatically from 23% in 2019 to 95% this year.

For the first time, Avtar announced the Top 10 Best Companies for ESG in India, recognizing companies for their environmental, social, and governance practices. Most companies focus on energy efficiency and solar energy, and all have formal occupational safety and health policies in place.

Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, Founder and President of Avtar, highlighted the progress: “From 25% women in 2016 to 35.7% this year, and leadership roles reaching 20%, it’s encouraging to see Indian companies actively embracing diversity and inclusion.
