Key Facts

  • IIM Mumbai is a premier national management institution recognised for research, leadership education, and public policy.
  • Tejasvinī पहल spans five pillars: scholarships, two award categories, DEI governance, and national recognition for women leaders.

Background

Tejasvinī pehel was started by IIM Mumbai in the second week of May during the celebration of Mother’s Day and is a platform initiated by IIM Mumbai that revolves around women’s empowerment, leadership, entrepreneurship, policy research, inclusion, and accessibility in education.

Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Director at IIM Mumbai, explained that Tejasvinī pehel has been launched by the institute as a pledge to facilitate a platform for women to grow with respect to education, entrepreneurship, policies, and leadership. He also said that the mother is the first teacher, mentor, and builder of society.

The initiative draws its name from the Sanskrit word Tejasvinī, which represents brilliance, strength, and radiance. IIM Mumbai also cited the Sanskrit verse “Yatra nāryastu pūjyante, ramante tatra devatāḥ”, meaning where women are honoured, there the divine dwells, as the philosophical foundation behind the effort.

Tejasvinī pehel rests on five dimensions: scholarships for girl students, the Tejasvinī Rashtriya Samman, the Tejasvinī Sansthan Puraskar, institutional governance and DEI integration, and national awards for women leaders. Together, these pillars aim to build a wider ecosystem where women can lead, innovate, and drive sustainable impact across sectors and communities.

IIM Mumbai scheduled the launch for Mother’s Day to recognise women as first educators, institution-builders, and changemakers in society. The institute said the initiative reflects the broader need to build leadership and learning ecosystems that actively support women at every level.
