CNMI has appointed Indian designer Kulsum Shadab Wahab as Women Empowerment Ambassador to promote equality and social responsibility in fashion.

The announcement was made on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, showing CNMI’s support for women worldwide.

Wahab, founder of Ara Lumiere, has long been recognised for her work empowering women who have survived acid attacks. Her brand, Ara Lumiere, offers jobs and training to over 100 women in India and won the 2022 CNMI Social Impact Award.

Carlo Capasa, Chairman of CNMI, emphasized the importance of her new role, stating that Wahab’s dedication to survivors of violence “is a virtuous example of how fashion can generate real impact,” adding that her commitment strengthens CNMI’s ongoing pursuit of social responsibility.

Responding to her appointment, Wahab said the courage and resilience of women remain her driving force. “Through fashion and social commitment, I strive to promote a world in which every woman can feel free, strong, and able to shape her own destiny, generating global change.”
