Cholan Tours has launched a Women E-Auto Program in Madurai to help women earn jobs and support green city travel. The program is helping 20 women start working as trained e-auto drivers.
With over 20 years in the travel industry, Cholan Tours has grown from a small South Indian travel agency into a well-known national tourism company. It serves thousands of travellers each year and has received several National and Tamil Nadu State Tourism Awards for its reliable service and focus on responsible tourism.
The new program has been introduced in partnership with MOWO (Moving Women), an NGO dedicated to improving women’s mobility and safety. The selected participants underwent structured training that included vehicle handling, customer service, soft skills, and basic tourism orientation. This equips them to offer reliable, safe, and informative city travel experiences to both residents and tourists.
Speaking at the launch event, Founder and Managing Director Pandian Kumaravel said the program reflects the company’s desire to give back to the community it grew from. “Women in our society symbolize resilience and strength. This initiative is a small but meaningful step toward widening opportunities for women and encouraging a more inclusive future,” he said. He also emphasized that the project is entirely social in nature and not-for-profit.
The launch was attended by MOWO Founder Ms. Jai Bharati, Mr. Kumaravel, Mrs. Mythily Pandian, and members of the Cholan Tours team.
By opening new livelihood avenues for women and promoting eco-friendly city travel, Cholan Tours marks an important milestone in advancing women-led green mobility in Tamil Nadu.
