Key Background
WISE Women’s Business Center, under the leadership of Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, was awarded a new three-year Empire State Development grant. The grant designates it as one of 26 New York State Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers. WISE will continue to provide free one-on-one business counseling and expand its award-winning Accelerate: Business Plan Intensive program for future women entrepreneurs through these grants.
The Accelerate program is a 10-week mentorship for startup entrepreneurs to develop strong business plans and financial models. In addition to entrepreneurial skills development, the program enhances access to capital, government certification, and partnerships. WISE seeks to serve more women under this high-impact model of support and continue its track record of effective community service in Central New York.
As another testament to the event, Clean & Glo Cleaning Services business owner Arteika Hunter was selected as the 2024 EAC Entrepreneur of the Year. A well-established business veteran of over ten years, she opened her own business in 2022 and credits her business success to the mentorship and education that came through WISE. Her award is a milestone for the center, further attesting to the success of its programs.
WISE has been a certified Women’s Business Center by the U.S. Small Business Administration since 2006. Through strategic partnerships and community affiliation, it has helped thousands of women establish and build successful enterprises. WISE director Meghan Florkowski has outlined the importance of the grant in furthering their mission to develop positive economic development through empowering woman-owned businesses in their community.
