Background
The UBUNTU consortium has partnered with Hitachi Rail to help train women entrepreneurs from Karnataka. The partnership aims to strengthen women-led businesses by improving their digital skills and helping them reach wider markets.
The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding in Bengaluru in the presence of senior officials, including Manoj Kumar Krishnappa, Head of Hitachi Rail India. Under this programme, more than 1,000 women entrepreneurs from 10 associations will receive training in digital marketing and business growth.
UBUNTU Consortium, a non-profit group that works for women’s empowerment, said the initiative will promote inclusive economic growth. It will provide practical training, digital tools and market exposure so that women can expand their businesses both in India and abroad.
K. Ratnaprabha, founder-president of UBUNTU Consortium and former Chief Secretary, said the partnership will create new opportunities in skill development and business expansion. She added that it will also help women entrepreneurs take part in larger projects and connect with supply chains in sectors like infrastructure.
She highlighted that the organisation has already trained over 4,000 women through its earlier digital programmes. Many of them were introduced to platforms such as ONDC and GeM, which helped them reach more customers.
As part of the current initiative, training sessions have been held in cities including Bengaluru, Tumakuru, Udupi and Kalaburagi. The programme is expected to help women grow their businesses and compete more confidently in the digital economy.
