Background
SANKALP-HEW Srinagar comes under the Social Welfare Department (SWD). It organised an interactive session titled “Business Women Interaction with Young Girls from Minority Communities” at Check-i-Sangri, Khonmoh, Srinagar.
The National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) partnered on the event, which fell under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.
Organisers wanted to give young girls from minority communities a look at real entrepreneurial success stories and inform them about self-employment, skill development and economic empowerment options open to them.
A woman entrepreneur spoke to the gathering about her own business path, pointing to determination, innovation and perseverance as the qualities that helped her build a successful enterprise.
Alongside her, a resource person from the Women Development Corporation walked the girls through government schemes, financial assistance, entrepreneurship development programmes and other support available to women wanting to start businesses.
Girls at the session took an active part, raising questions and sharing views on career goals, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and the part women play in economic growth.
Resource persons pushed the young participants to build confidence, pick up useful skills and make full use of government schemes meant for their socio-economic advancement.
SANKALP-HEW Srinagar officials pointed to the department’s ongoing focus on women’s empowerment and its work creating platforms that push young girls toward financial independence and a bigger role in society.
Participants thanked the Department of Social Welfare and NRLM for putting together the session, calling it a valuable experience that opened their eyes to entrepreneurship and livelihood options they hadn’t considered before.
