Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility has made significant advancements, providing support to both individuals and couples facing infertility. Techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), egg freezing, and genetic screening have transformed reproductive medicine, alleviating healthcare challenges and helping individuals realize their desire to become parents. SCRC Co-Medical Director Carolyn Alexander, M.D., leads the team with an emphasis on personalized care and fertility preservation so that every treatment is custom-tailored to provide the best solution for the individual patient’s specific needs. Under the leadership of Dr. Susan M. Maxwell, SCRC continues to be on the forefront with emphasis on a patient-centered, team-based culture that differentiates SCRC from other reproductive health and fertility treatment.

Dr. Carolyn Alexander gained expertise in fertility preservation at Johns Hopkins, where she was trained to educate oncologists on the importance of fertility preservation options, including egg and embryo freezing. She was trained in IVF by some of the first pioneer doctors such as Drs. Georgiana and Howard Jones. Dr. Alexander is a PCOS expert, and her research at Cedars-Sinai transformed the genetic origins of the disease. Committed to patient care, she focuses on individualized treatment at SCRC, combined with vitrification innovations, egg quality, and genetics, to deliver the best outcome for her patients.
Dr. Susan Maxwell highlights the fact that genetic technology innovation, i.e., Preimplantation Genetic Testing, has revolutionized IVF success and reproductive medicine. The test identifies chromosomally normal embryos with better chances of healthy pregnancy and minimizes the risk of miscarriage. Greater accuracy of such tests allows them to identify even tiny genetic flaws, thus becoming more effective and common. Dr. Maxwell further highlights that good leadership equals good patient care. Her work-life balance allows her to perform better at work and at the same time enjoy personal well-being and focusing on patient-healthcare.
Celebrated by Chief Women Leaders as The Most Pioneering Women Leaders in Endocrinology and Infertility in 2024, SCRC under the leadership of Dr. Carolyn Alexander and Dr. Susan M. Maxwell continues to lead with a patient-centered approach, emphasizing personalized care and cutting-edge technologies.
