Background:
Standard Chartered, AUC Venture Lab, and Village Capital have graduated the first women from Egypt’s FWIT programme, boosting women-led tech innovation.
The programme aims to help women entrepreneurs grow their businesses and encourage innovation in Egypt’s tech industries. The programme is part of Standard Chartered’s global Futuremakers initiative, funded by the Standard Chartered Foundation, which has supported over 4,000 women founders across 17 markets to date.
After a highly competitive selection process, twelve women-led startups were chosen from over 240 applications, with eleven successfully completing the programme. Over three months, participants engaged in more than 35 training sessions and 40 mentorship and roundtable sessions led by industry experts, investors, and seasoned entrepreneurs.
The programme culminated in a Demo Day, where startups pitched to a distinguished panel of judges, including Mohammed Gad, CEO of Standard Chartered Egypt, and Dr. Ayman Ismail, Founding Director of AUC Venture Lab. Three startups, Aziza, Tribe, and Learning Rockets, won USD 10,000 each in funding to help grow their businesses and make a bigger impact.
“This graduation marks a strong start in advancing women’s participation and leadership in technology. The dedication and innovation demonstrated by these graduates reflect the transformative potential of this programme,” said Mohammed Gad, CEO of Standard Chartered Egypt.
Dr. Ayman Ismail of AUC Venture Lab added, “We are inspired by the resilience and hard work of our participants. This programme gives practical knowledge and real-world guidance, helping entrepreneurs improve their businesses and build connections.”
