Key Background :
Opal Suchata Chuangsri, a 21-year-old Thai Phuket beauty, made headlines around the world when she was crowned Miss World 2025. Her record-breaking triumph in the grand finale event hosted in Hyderabad was the first-ever win for Thailand in the 72-year history of the prestigious international pageant. Agonizingly beating out 107 other women from all over the world, Opal became a crowd phenomenon and an inspirational icon with a bold personal and social agenda.
Her own life is as unexpected as her victory. She was opened up at 16 years of age to have a 10-centimeter tumor removed from her breast. It is this intimate encounter that prompted her to start “Opal For Her,” a campaign focused on informing individuals about breast cancer and detection. Her campaign has ever since become a global phenomenon as far as reach and influence go, and is being acclaimed by public health activists near and far, and going a long way in making her Miss World.
In addition to her work as an activist, Opal is also taking Political Science and International Relations at Thammasat University. She is fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese and has applied her speaking skills to effectively communicate and impart messages of empowerment and health education. Her wit, emotional intelligence, and oratory skills made her an outstanding contestant for not just beauty but also substance.
Earlier, Opal had been in Miss Universe 2024 and won the third runner-up award. Again, however, her decision not to compete in Miss World since she was still under contract to the Miss Universe organization disqualified her from competing for that title. In spite of the scandal, she recovered and succeeded finally on an even greater platform. Currently a celebrated cultural ambassador, she still promotes Thai culture and women’s health as a model and national pride icon.
