Background

HCLTech Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra said the company’s long-term planning, strong leadership and focus on its core strengths have helped it grow faster than its peers in recent years. She also said HCLTech is preparing for the next phase of growth by expanding its artificial intelligence capabilities and investing in new technologies.

Malhotra said her father, HCL founder Shiv Nadar, followed a clear succession plan and prepared different leaders for specific roles across the group. Before taking charge of HCL Corp. in 2009, she gained experience by working across different parts of the business, including manufacturing and overseas operations.

After joining the HCLTech board in 2013, she spent time meeting company leaders across key markets to better understand the business. She was appointed as the non-executive chairperson of the company in 2020 when Shiv Nadar retired.

One of the important decisions she made was that of creating a streamlined board for better communication and quicker decision-making. She said this helped the management and board stay aligned on long-term goals.

Malhotra credited the company’s leadership team, led by Managing Director and CEO C. Vijayakumar, for driving consistent growth. She said HCLTech has focused on engineering, customer relationships, cloud, software and AI while continuing to explore new areas such as Physical AI, AI factories and outcome-based solutions.

She added that the company remains open to acquisitions that fit its long-term strategy and customer needs. The HCL Group has also entered the semiconductor business through a joint venture with Foxconn. Malhotra said the company will continue to focus on profitability, cash generation and disciplined investments while adapting to changing technology trends.
