Key Background :
The Center for Women Entrepreneurs (CWE), as a subsidiary of the University of North Texas at the Health Science Center (UNT HSC), has traveled along way with ten years of accomplishment in fostering women-driven innovation and economic empowerment. In a span of ten years, it has been an influential drive to empower women across Texas to transform their ideas into profitable business ventures.
CWE was founded in Fort Worth to offer a direct entrepreneurial assistance to women through grant programs, professional training, business guidance, and access to resources. Over $1.3 million in grants has been given to 176 women-owned businesses since its doors opened through programs such as the “StartHER” grant. The grants, guided by business experts, have helped women address basic business issues so that they can start viable businesses.
One of the standout features of CWE’s work is its hands-on involvement with aspiring entrepreneurs. The center not only offers financial backing but also fosters personal growth, confidence, and professional skill development among participants. Their programs are open to both early-stage founders and experienced women looking to scale their businesses.
A part of the 10th anniversary celebration, these businessmen such as Dionne Rosser-Mims, a newly awarded grantee, attributed the magic of the way CWE helped her start bookkeeping firm. Her success stories appreciate the ripple effect that the center has created—imposing not only economic empowerment but also community empowerment and local employment.
Looking ahead, the center remains focused on its mission to inspire, educate, and support women entrepreneurs across Texas. With growing interest in women-led enterprises, CWE’s next decade promises even more innovation, expansion, and leadership development, ensuring more dreams transition from vision to venture.
