Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu topped India’s medal effort at the Asian Games 2026, taking silver in the women’s 49kg category for her first Asiad podium appearance. She lifted a total of 198kg, combining 87kg in snatch with 111kg in clean and jerk. Gold went to North Korea’s Ri Song Gum, who lifted 215kg.
Four bronze medals followed. Soft tennis player Jay Meena became the first Indian to win an Asian Games medal in the sport, claiming bronze in men’s singles despite a tough semifinal defeat to Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka.
India’s women’s skeet shooters, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan, combined for a score of 331 to earn bronze. The men’s skeet trio of Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan and Bhavtegh Singh Gill matched that feat, beating Kazakhstan in a shoot-off for their own bronze.
Badminton added another bronze, with doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty delivering the team’s lone win over reigning world champions Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang during the semifinal.
In other action, wushu athlete Roshibina Devi booked her spot in the women’s 60kg Sanda final, keeping alive her bid for a gold to complete her medal set. On the hockey field, Deepika Sehrawat struck nine goals in India’s 20-1 win over Thailand, setting a new record for most goals scored by an individual in a single Asian Games match.
With these results, India’s overall medal count climbed to 12, made up of one gold, five silver and six bronze.
