Background-
Six first-generation women entrepreneurs in Kolkata and its suburbs will receive grants of ₹2 lakh each over one year to restart or strengthen their businesses.
The Kutchina Foundation announced the awards under its Krittika Samriddhi initiative, Telegraph India reported. The recipients built their ventures without inherited capital, and the grants give them funding to keep their operations moving.
The program goes beyond money. It connects the founders with training and market links, so they can build business skills and reach more customers.
Debangshi Biswas Chowdhury, a trans woman, is among the recipients. She launched an online venture and stepped back from it within six months, and she said the grant will help her restart. She said recognition alongside cisgender women carries great value for trans women.
The other recipients include a woman from Khardah who is building a nail art studio and an entrepreneur who runs a confectionery. These small service businesses often rely on the founder’s savings and steady cash flow in their early stage.
Namit Bajoria, managing director of Kutchina Home Makers Private Limited and chairperson of the foundation, said the right support at the right time makes a big difference to first-time builders. He said a business needs access to knowledge, people, markets and confidence to keep moving forward.
Bajoria added that he began his own career as a first-generation industrialist without an inherited industrial legacy. The foundation therefore pairs direct funding with mentoring and market access.
