Key Background:

Reliance Foundation and Vital Voices have selected 50 women leaders across India for the 2024-2025 Women Leaders India Fellowship. These women have been recognized for their work in Climate Resilience, Education, Livelihoods, and Sports for Development and are making a real difference in their communities as social leaders and entrepreneurs.

Now in its second year, the Fellowship is a 10-month program that offers opportunities for leadership training, mentorship, and networking with national and global leaders. The program supports India’s goal of women-led development, highlighted during the country’s G20 Presidency in 2023, and promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

The program began with a two-day in-person meeting in Mumbai on September 13-14. The Fellows linked, exchanged ideas, and made plans for their Fellowship lives. Throughout the ten months, they will attend webinars, workshops, and community-based events online and develop their competencies and expand their networks. A mentor will also be assigned to each Fellow so as to guide them through the program. The Fellowship will conclude with a final event to celebrate the participants’ achievements and look back on their progress.

Ms Isha Ambani, speaking at the launch, said that women’s leadership can create powerful positive change. She congratulated the 50 selected Fellows and said that the connections, learning, and support they share will strengthen the social sector and make a lasting impact.

Ms Alyse Nelson, President and CEO of Vital Voices Global Partnership, said they are excited to help nurture and guide the next generation of women leaders in India. They are committed to making a lasting change, and their work in climate action, education, and livelihoods demonstrates this commitment to equality for women. The Women Leaders India Fellowship by Reliance Foundation continues to empower women and strengthen India’s social sector.
